DCS & Wells Fargo Made Headlines in Point Breeze

On Saturday, May 31, 2014, Diversified Community Services partnered with Wells Fargo and City Year for a massive day of service in Point Breeze. More than 850 Wells Fargo volunteers joined 250 City Year volunteers to create an inspiring learning environment for children in the Point Breeze community.

“Our vision for the schools and community center is to create a safe place to play, inspiring murals, brightened hallways and stairwells, a basketball court, new school supplies, newly painted auditorium and classrooms, and the signature Wells Fargo “Eagle Room” complete with video games and flat screen TVs,” said Greg Redden, President of Wells Fargo’s Greater Philadelphia/Delaware region. “Diversified and Wells Fargo have partnered for a number of years on community development activities that have strengthened the Point Breeze Community. We are delighted to join forces with Wells Fargo to implement an unprecedented day of service that will physically transform two of our community centers, as well as McDaniel Elementary School,” said Otis Bullock, Executive Director of Diversified Community Services.

Volunteer sites included McDaniel Elementary School and Annex, Dixon Learning Academy, and the Dixon House. Transformation included a newly renovated Gross Motor Room at DLA, as well as: Building playgrounds at both elementary schools Creating basketball courts and hopscotch areas Painting hallways, stairwells and classrooms Creating murals, inspirational posters, college logos, and welcome signs Building cubbies and tables Landscaping and planting flowers Creating the Eagle Lounge at McDaniel Elementary, designed to reward students’ positive behavior, outfitted with flat screen TVs, Xboxes, Wiis, a ping pong table, couches, cafĂ© tables and chairs.
